So there's this shirt

I made a shirt. No pattern, just used the basic outline of another shirt I had sort of like this one. I knew I wanted to add a cute collar but I've never done this before so it's sort of half-assed. I was proud that I sewed the hems straighter around the neck, arms and bottom edge. It is a little large so I think I need to alter it some more up both sides just to make it more fitting. It does sort of have a boxy sixties look right now but it makes me look huge. I'm a little worried the collar is going to make me look like a clown. I pink fabric is from the thrift store and the polka dot fabric is leftover from this shirt makeover.

{never mind the wrinkles}

I forgot to mention last month on June 28th that is was The Blog's four year anniversary. Yeay for four years of making things and making my personal life all public and shit.

DIY - Skinny Jeans!

I got a gift card to the Gap (I rarely shop there anymore) a few years ago which resulted in me purchasing a pair of nice black stretch jeans for way cheap. The only problem with them was that they were like bell bottoms. They weren't just regular wide leg jeans they were def bells. They fit perfectly every where except the bottoms. They were driving me crazy until I decided to use this tutorial on Freshly Picked. I obviously used the adult version of the tutorial and they turned out awesome. Now they are my favorite jeans right now.

Skirt Makeover

I found this old skirt at the thrift store. It was too long and a little frumpy looking but it had pockets so I wanted to work with it. I decided to add a little lace trim to it.

Lace is okay on skirts and slips but not as trim on a tank top. To all of my friends who like to make sure they mention to me that they still wear those tank tops I love you regardless. I really do.

DIY Band Tee Pillow

I had this Queen tee shirt that shrunk in the washer and dryer...it totally did, okay? It doesn't have anything to do with me gaining weight at all or growing into my woman body. SHUT UP!

I decided I was sick of it drowning with the rest of my old tee shirts that ALSO shrunk in my closet. It needed a better purpose so I turned it into a pillow. I used the fabric on the back of it from the old sweaters I turned into Sid Viciously. I also kept the tag because I couldn't bear to part with it.

DIY Bandana

I've been in a bandana mood lately. I found this scrap of vintage fabric at the thrift store and decided to make a bandana out of it.

I took a bandana that I already had to use as the pattern. This was really easy. I cut out the square pattern and folded up each side, pinned it up, and sewed the around the edges twice to make a nice hem. Voila - done! This is pretty much just like making fabric napkins.

Here are a couple of different ways to wear it. I am increasingly expressing my nerdyness on here by doing stuff like this. I did this mini photo shoot in my mom's truck while I waited for her to get out of the bank.

A little project

Sew I needed a little something to keep my crotchet needles all together. I sound so granny like saying that. Yeah well I am old so F*%# it! I move my crotchet stuff around all over so I end up losing them all of the time. I know this isn't an original idea but I put my own special twist on it by putting the turquoise ribbon on it (I still have a crap load of this ribbon from my wedding). I found this vintage fabric at the thrift store and although it smells a little even after I washed it twice I still like it. You'll see it pop up from time to time.

First sewing project almost done!

It's been almost seven months and I am finally sewing with my new machine. I didn't even sew my fingers together...yet!
