DIY Punk Vest

It's sort of silly calling this a DIY like it's something new considering real punk vests are naturally do-it-yourself. Punk is hardcore DIY and punks have been DIY-ing everything they wear and do since the movement existed. A dream would be to discover an old punk vest or jacket at a thrift store someday but I can't wait forever so I wanted to make my own. I'm in the mood lately to stud and bleach everything.

(this is totally unrelated but I'm highly distracted right now because Freddy Krueger and Drusilla are both on Criminal Minds right now. I'm catching up online as I write this.)

I saw Amy's denim jacket restyle a few weeks back and it motivated me to add the graphic on the back of my vest from the vintage tee I found quite awhile ago. If you haven't checked our her laster cat denim jacket you have to. I can't get over how rad it is. It reminds me of the Luchadora hoodie makeover I did a long time ago. Holy crap, have I been doing this for too long?

Anyway, back to me being a poser douche by thinking I can pull off a punk vest. Naturally Tyrone hates it but he says that about anything that exists, at least that is what he pretends to be like. I'm excited to wear it. It took me awhile to finish it but I do like how it finally turned out.

I started with a regular denim jacket, cut off the sleeves, bleached the crap out of it, painted one side of the underarm area with pink stripes (unintentional chevron pattern), added studs and sewed the graphic on the back. I can't forget to mention the safety pins on the front and I even used a sharpie to add the stripes to the front pocket. In hindsight this was fairly simple to do I just couldn't figure out exactly how I wanted it to look so I took my time with tit.
