cotton candy days

cotton candy days

moments when they're at the surface

I feel everything more

the tips of my fingers buzz

a tear hangs by a thread

I'm fearful of it falling

more than likely it will

focusing on that tear

distracted from reality

it pushes me further away

happier though

the Sun beams inside me

back and forth tilting away

like children lost in the clouds

whispers are louder

and ghosts are nearer

I float by on a little red boat

feet dangling beneath pale pink tulle

and lip stick smeared across my cheek

shoes are not required since

I'm not really going anywhere

drifting in the blue

carried by my dreams

the gray is near

but it only hurts for awhile

humming lullabies and

sipping on gin and juice

till I surface for breath

and the elevator door opens

welcomed by trickery

I step inside because of the fear

and hold tight

for cotton candy days
