Let's talk hair

A few months ago I decided to veer away from my normal black dye job and try out black cherry. (so drastic I know) I wanted a red-ish tint but wasn't quite ready to go auburn or bright red. After I dyed it it came out black. No cherry or red tint at all. I died my hair recently again but this time I bought a lighter yet brighter auburn color thinking it that would do the trick. This time it went black cherry. I finally got the red-ish tint but it was still way too dark. And by this time I was ready to go lighter. But after thinking about it harder - for all of this time I am ready to go bright red. I want to do it so bad. I think I need to wait a few more weeks because it's only been about 4 or 5 weeks. Bring on the damaged hair!! Besides if I hate it I can always dye it back to black. I'm also really cheap (hello Junk Hunts) and will not go to a professional. I did find some hair that specializes in red shades for dark hair - so we'll see.

This is what it looks like in the bright sun after a bunch of washes now but as you can see it's really only at the roots; the rest is black. I realize it's hard to go lighter when your hair is dark especially black but I have done this before back in the nineties and it turned out exactly how I wanted it. I'm really just bitching and whining here now.

Good luck! Hopefully it turns out just like you want it. I've never really thought about how lucky I am to be blonde going dark and not the other way around.

I used a henna-based hair dye when I was like 14 to dye my hair red and it worked out splendidly, but at that time my hair was naturally pretty light. Now it's naturally red and I want nothing to do with it. :)
